Planning

Equipment -
I experimented and tested out the cameras provided by the media department including the GH4 and the handheld DJI OSMO. Both these cameras recorded high quality 1080p HD with the GH4 recording at 4K. Nevertheless the GH4, seemed like the best choice however it was without a handheld frame/stabiliser for steady camera movement. After taking mock up shots I realised the shakey quality of video disrupted the footage.

Furthermore, the OSMO didn't fair well in low light and the zoom wasn't good enough when taking long shots or close ups. This caused issues as I wanted to take a lot of my footage at dusk. The Gimbal element to the camera was incredibly useful as it allowed for steady camera movement and freedom when shooting. Despite this, the camera was in constant use by other students meaning I couldn't go out for shoots when I needed to.

In addition, the camera could record 1080p HD so the camera could record in high quality giving my music video a cinematic feel. It also recorded well in low light which was perfect for my music video. The Canon 5D also had a stabiliser which allowed for controlled and steady camera movement. I also watched a tutorial on how to better my knowledge of the camera. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP_wfMeCIIY

Editing Software -
I considered using different editing softwares such as, Lightworks, iMovie and Final Cut Pro. Lightworks offered very advanced editing softwares and VFX, along with it being free. However, it was rather complicated to work and I found that I wasn't using all of its aspects. Final Cut Pro offered advanced and easy to use editing however was only accessible at school which slowed down my editing. I finally decided to use iMovie as it was free and offered simple but effective editing.

I decided to plan what locations I wanted to shoot at. I intended to focus around the seaside area and took nearly all my footage in Broadstairs, with various long shots at locations such as the pier, along the cliffside as well as down by the beach.

I also went to Margate to look for some good places to film and remained round the seafront area, taking shots around Dreamland for the lighting and appealing mise en scene. Furthermore, this fits in nicely with my representation of the area we live in and the depiction of the youth and the younger generation. I also went into the block of flats and multi story car park to portray the slightly urban aspects of our seaside town.
